Congratulations Jackie

For all of you that know Jackie Fung, she is going to officially be mamajacks.

Congratulations to Jackie and Rauri.

All the best from all Power House girls

Round 5 v Wyndham City Rhinos 30/5/09

We went into the week unsure of how it would go against the new team in the comp, but came out on top with a 29-17 win.

A great game by the girls, with powerhouse for the first time in a while having excess backs, so a few wingers were poached to become the new flankers and they did an awesome job. Gribble almost even scored a try from the flank, if only she didn’t slow down as she though she heard the whistle and was taken into touch a metre short of the line. Plenty more opportunities for you gribble.

Ned did an awesome job, and stole or got a hand on everyone of their lineouts all day.

Try scorers for the day were Niki, Sao, Tamara and Tupu

Round 4 v Monash @home

First win for the season final score 24-15. Excellent first half by the girls going into the break 17-0 but let Monash back into the game in the second half, with them playing their game plan and us running out of puff. Girls still needing to work on a bit of fitness so will be a tough week at training ahead.

Try scorer for the day were: Tamara (13), Sao (12) x2 and Carolyn/Dino (9). Conversion Niki x2.

Round 3 vs Box Hill @home

Not the best result for the weekend going down 58-0, just didn’t play our game and we’ll leave it at that.

A least we didn’t get beaten as bad as Monash who were beaten 87-0 by Northern.

Anyway drunk away our sorrows and had an awesome night at the heroes and villains party. Check out the photos on the powerhouse website and facebook.

Round 2 - Bye

ah the serenity....

Round 1 v Northern @ Northern

For the first game of the season the girls had a great start, even with only 11 girls. We kicked off to Northern and the ball ended up in Selei from Northerns hands, and she got through the first few tackles and made a 40 metre break down the sidelines, looking to be in for sure to be a try, but was chased down by Niki (new soccer convert), stopping the try. Awesome work. From this the girls lifted and the poor discipline from Northern played into our hands, with 6 or 7 penalties in a row gaining us about 60metres down the field. A few swift moves from the backs and Sao was in for a try, converted by Niki. 7-0 to Powerhouse.
Great defence and excellent attacking and ball security saw the girls keep applying pressure to northern, who kept giving away penalties. Sao got in for another try under the posts, converted by Niki, 14-0 powerhouse.
Unfortunately Northern got a try just before half time. Half time score 14-5.
Great effort put in by the grils in the second half, unfortunately the girls just ran out of puff as they were now playing 11 v 14 (unlike the first half were northern were only paying with 1 to even up the game). Northern ran in 4 trys in the second half.
Final score 25-14 to Northern.
Team is looking to have a solid base for the season and with a few people to come back from injury, there should be a few wins on the board this year.
3,2,1 for the game went to 3 points Gill Jarvis, 2 Julie Savoie, adn 1 point to Corlyn Gray (Dino).

Season 2009 is underway!

Season 2009 is underway!

To get the rugby juices flowing, a couple of weeks ago some of the PowerHouse girls made the trip down to Cerbrus for the Vic Rugby centenary celebration 10's and had a run with Northern. The great news to come out of that event was the introduction of a new team - Wyndham City - hip hip hooray! A lot of new girls with a few experienced players - Wyndham seemed to enjoy themselves and we hope they become a long term success story. They have a very supportive club environment so things look good.

With the season proper starting on the 18th of May for seniors, the PowerHouse girls had their first run out as a team at the Womens 10's at Northern (see pic). Scores were low all day, with most teams appearing pretty evenly matched. We came second in our matches. (Northern 20-5, Box Hill 5-0, Monash 5-0). A deliberate ploy or an accident (you be the judge), we did give the opposition a psycological boost.... Sao didnt arrive till the second half of the last game.

Other news - we have a new coach! Tiana joins us from Queensland (East Tigers) and has played rugby for 5 years, and has coached Touch, Athletics and Swimming. We also have a cast of new players (a few complete brand newies) that are all doing really well. In particular, Nicky was a standout at the 10's - watch out for this star.

Round 7 - Monash @ Home

Wow what a wind! no rain, but the wind was bitterly cold and just went straight through you.
Our match was the curtain raiser to the first pillar game of the season, westgate power v eastern districts. Numbers were good - we both had reserves - which really evened things out. Sadly our awesome flyhalf Harue broke her ankle, but everyone worked hard all game - for a close finish 5-12 (to Monash).

We had three PowerHouse girls go away with Victoria to the nationals: congratulations to Kate (Hautu), Sao and Tupu. On all accounts they did an outstanding job on behalf of our club. the Vic girls did pretty good in general, finishing 4th, with no major injuries being brought home. Sao came home with an extra special treat... selection in the 2008 Wallaroos squad! Well done Sao!!

Round 6 - Box Hilll @ Box Hill

Friday, June 20, 2008

Round 5 - Northern @ Quins

With a cricket score to take home and plenty of rain - it wasnt all doom and gloom at Quins. We did a good job holding them out through the middle of the pitch, it was just the speedsters outside that did the damage :(
Everyone enjoyed themselves and there were no major injuries.
